On 04/01/19, around 8pm, HB Lifeguards were informed by the HB Police of a caller who heard screams coming from the water in the area between towers 1 and 3. Lifeguards responded and found the caller on shore and a local surfer who had been night surfing was bringing the victim to shore. The victim had been caught in a rip current and screaming for help. A local surfer followed the sounds of the screams and found the victim who was actively in the process of drowning. The surfer has taken our SALT — Surfers Awareness in Lifesaving Techniques— class and used the skills he learned about how to contact the victim and assist the victim to shore using his surfboard. For those of you who don’t know what our SALT program is, it is a program that teaches surfers and other water users how they can make a rescue or help to save someone by giving them an awareness of possible situations and some techniques to utilize in the event they find themselves in a situation like Ethan. Send us an email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in learning more or setting up a SALT class. Great job on making a critical rescue!
